This animal is a herbivorous animal. Cattle goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) is a subspecies of wild goat that naturally occurs in Southwest Asia (Turkey) and Europe. Male and female goats have horns, but male goats are larger.

Generally, goats have beards, convex foreheads, slightly upward tails, and mostly straight and coarse hair. Goats have a body length of about 1.3 — .1.4 meters, and a tail of 12-15 cm.

How to raise a good goat

1. Seed Selection

Before choosing goat seeds, you must choose the type of goat you will cultivate first.

A. Etawa Goat

This goat can be used as a meat or dairy goat. The characteristics are having a large body, convex forehead and nose, long ears down, and short horns. Male goats reach 127 cm tall and weigh 91 Kg, while females only reach 92 cm and weigh 63 Kg.

B. Goat Gibas / Sheep

The characteristics of sheep are that they have thick fur all over the body, have white fur, because each type of area is different, some have horns and some don't, the weight of the male is about 50-100 kg, while the female is only about 20-50 kg.

C. Peanut Goat

Characteristics of short hair with white / black / brown and some are mixed. Both males and females have horns like swords, short ears hang down, there is a beard on the males, and have long hair along the neckline to the tail and buttocks.

After you decide which goat to raise, you also have to pay attention to the requirements for choosing good seeds. Here are the conditions:

  •     Goats are 6–8 months old.

  •     Fat tail.

  •     The waist line with the back line should be straight.

  •     Clean fur.

  •     Long body, prioritize male

  •     Healthy, not disabled, not blind, clean nose and anus.

2. Build the Cage

In building a cage, try to make a comfortable cage for goats to make it easier for you to care for and supervise them. A good cage is a stage type cage (modern). The advantage of this type is that it makes it easier for you to feed, clean dirt, supervise and others.

Here are tips on building a cage:

  •     The distance from the house is at least 10m.

  •     Sturdy.

  •     Try to get sunlight and away from people's homes.

  •     Not damp and easy to clean.

  •     Air circulation in the cage and the male cage is separated (unless they want to be bred).

  •     We recommend using a stage cage with a height of 0.5 m.

3. Feeding

The main feed for goats is forage with a daily requirement of 5-7 kg per head. Meanwhile, to increase the rate of growth and fattening, you need additional feed in the form of concentrate. For the daily dose, each goat requires 0.5 kg of additional feed mixed with bran or bran.

Goat feed is given 2 times a day, in the morning and evening. Concentrate should be given before forage feed. Do not forget to give komboran to the goats in the form of rice bran mixed with water, given in the afternoon. As well as vitamins to increase endurance and reduce the smell of feces.

4. Treatment

To support good goat growth, then you have to take care of the cage where the goats are kept, such as cleaning the dirt and food residue. Minimum 2 times a week.

The thing that you should not put aside is always taking care of the Javan goat so that its health is maintained. If the goat gets sick, the goat's growth and development will be hampered and even cause death.

Therefore you need to give vaccines and medicines to goats.

To ensure the success of livestock business, goats also need care.

Cattle care can be in the form of feeding and drinking, shearing, cutting nails. Bathe goats at least 2 times a year. Cattle that are rarely bathed will be more susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria and fungi.

5. Harvesting

Harvesting can be done when the goats have reached adulthood (poel / toothless), which is about 8-12 months old. Goat harvest is done every year. The selling price of goats starts from 1.2 million to 4.5 million, but also depends on the type of goat. The goat that has a high selling price is the Etawa goat.

Try to harvest the goats per year in conjunction with Eid al-Adha or other big days, so that the selling price of goats will be higher and the profits will be higher.

That's a good way of raising goats. Hopefully this article can help and add to your insight in raising peanut goats. See you in another article.
