Getting to Know the Types of Gibas Goats
Gibas goats are a type of goat that has the characteristics of thick hair and dreadlocks. Often also referred to as goat dreadlocks. In general, the color of this goat is white with long fur and a fairly large body.
In Indonesia, this type of goat is widely cultivated to become one of the profitable livestock goats than the usual type of goat. This type of gibas goat is one type of goat that has a large level of adaptation to climate change and is able to breed throughout the year regardless of the season.
There are two types of gibas goats seen from the tail. Here are the two types.
1. Goat gibas thin tail
This goat is a native Indonesian goat whose population is widely found in Central Java and West Java. This goat has characteristics such as having a small body, slow growth, coarse hair, and relatively little meat gain.
The weight itself ranges from 30-40 kg for male goats. The weight of female goats ranges from 20-25 kg. For the percentage of carcass gain is 44-49% of the total weight of the Gibas goats. Carcass is the part of the goat that has a high selling value, such as the bone, meat, and meat fat. The tail is thin, only about 20 cm long with about 3 cm thick and 5.5 cm wide at the base of the tail.
2. Goat gibas fat tail
Goats that have a long tail with a tailbone number of up to 14, are included in the gibas goat with a fat tail. Characteristics of this goat is a large body shape, thick and shaggy fur, and a rough tail. The shape of the tail tends to get smaller at the end. At the end is a storage area for fat reserves.
The fat reserves function as energy intake when the goat is facing extreme weather. In Indonesia, the population of fat-tailed gibas goats is abundant in the Madura area. The weight of this type of goat reaches 50-70 kg for male and female goats ranging from 30-40 kg.
